Geminare and Hosting.com Leverage the Cloud to Revolutionize the BC/DR Industry

hosting

Hosting.com’s cloud-enabled Server Replication service
rapidly gains traction in the mid-market as a cost-effective solution

March 7th, 2011, Toronto, Canada: Geminare, a pioneer in the Recovery as a Service (RaaS) space, and Hosting.com, a global provider of Cloud Hosting and Recovery Services, today announced a milestone as Hosting.com’s Server Replication services surpassed forecasted first-year customer adoption rates in less than 9 months.

Hosting.com added Geminare’s Server Replication solution to its suite of availability and BC/DR solutions to bring customers continuous availability of their mission-critical servers and applications. Hosting.com offers both cloud-based and physical server replication between its network of connected datacenters.  Hosting.com’s Server Replication boasts Real Time Objectives (RTO) measured in single-digit minutes, and leverages Geminare’s industry-unique Hub portal capabilities to deliver single-click, rapid automated failover and failback.

Hosting.com’s Server Replication customers are primarily mid-market accounts, and come from a variety of industries including Finance, Retail, Healthcare and Software Vendors.  The customers share many of the following characteristics: require access to critical data at all times; previously limited access to traditional “build-it” dedicated BC/DR solutions; enhancing existing tape back-up practices with introduction of real-time application availability; first exposure to the economic benefits of cloud services.

Jim Schott, CTO of Cooper River Financial, a US-based capital markets consulting firm, commented that he has “every confidence in the service because the testing was quite severe.” During the set up and testing phase in August 2010, Cooper River deliberately disabled its SQL server during a database transaction – without informing anyone in advance. Three hundred of the 400-record transactions had been processed, when the server was taken down.  Server Replication failed over automatically, and seamlessly completed the remaining 100 transactions while running off of the cloud.  There was no service interruption and no data loss, confirming the high value inherent in the service. Read Hosting.com’s complete Cooper River Financial Case Study.

Joshua Geist, Geminare’s CEO stated, “Hosting.com’s ‘Always On’ philosophy aligns 100% with Geminare’s commitment to cloud-enabled, continuous application availability.   From the start, the Hosting.com team has been proactive and enthusiastic, and has provided the solution to more companies than we had anticipated – in a very short time frame.  We’re delighted to have such an innovative, quality organization by our side as we strive to make BC/DR solutions an affordable staple of every business, large or small.”

Eric Hutts, Area VP for Hosting.com, stated, “The addition of Server Replication to our cloud hosting and availability services has had an immediate impact on our business and client acquisition strategies. Customers look to Hosting.com for enterprise-level, cloud-enabled recovery and this solution allows us to meet their RTO, security and failback needs instantly.” Referring to the healthy customer adoption rate, Mr. Hutts noted, “Geminare continues to prove itself to be a strategic and highly-engaged partner and regularly helps us identify acquisition targets for this and other BC/DR solutions. The greatest early sign of success is that our customers are not only adopting the solution, but they are also regularly referring other businesses to the solution.”

Hosting.com is one of the first hosting providers to present its customers with a connected datacenter network – providing Cloud and Managed hosting redundancy across multiple, geographically-dispersed datacenters while eliminating single points of failure.

Powered by Geminare’s Cloud Recovery, Hosting.com’s Server Replication solution ensures secure availability of mission-critical applications by replicating the application environment from one Hosting.com datacenter to a secondary Hosting.com datacenter or from the customer premise to a Hosting.com datacenter, thereby meeting regulatory requirements and reducing the financial risk of not being able to reach clients, suppliers and employees during a system failure.

For an in-depth BC/DR discussion featuring experts from Hosting.com and Geminare, you can listen to the pre-recorded Real-Time Replication for Disaster Recovery webinar held in February.

ESG Report Concludes Geminare is Changing the Economics of BC/DR

logo_lockup_rgb

ESG Product Brief: “Geminare makes BC/DR highly accessible to organizations where viable solutions were previously unavailable.”

January 4th, 2011, Toronto, Canada: Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), a leading IT analyst and business strategy firm, world-renowned for forward-looking market intelligence and analysis, has released a Product Brief on the Geminare Recovery as a Service (RaaS) portfolio.  In this report, ESG Senior Analyst Lauren Whitehouse examines the growing need for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery solutions within the SMB/SME and MSP markets, and hones in on the ESG “Bigger Truth”: that Geminare’s failback capability is unique in the market among automated failover solutions and thereby distances the company from seemingly economically competitive BC/DR offerings.

Whitehouse refers to a recent ESG Study, 2010 Data Protection Trendsas validation of the growing need for BC/DR solutions, stating: “ESG research revealed that nearly three-quarters (74%) of respondents to a recent survey indicated that their organization would experience significant adverse business impact with as little as three hours or less of downtime for tier-1 applications.”  Whitehouse comments that “this generation’s social conditioning for immediate gratification makes continuous availability and access to information an expectation.”  Still, Whitehouse notes, “even with more aggressive recovery time and point objectives organizations are reluctant to adopt high availability and failover solutions due to perceived complexity and high capital and operating costs.”

In response to the market needs and concerns, she observes that the “introduction of cloud computing and virtualization [is] changing this dynamic by positively impacting the feasibility and economics of implementing BC/DR” and points specifically to Geminare as having “recognized and addressed this opportunity several years ago by developing a compelling Recovery as a Service solution, when virtualization and cloud were just taking hold.”

Joshua Geist, Geminare’s CEO comments, “A hallmark of the ESG Product Brief is its ‘Bigger Truth,’ section, and I’m delighted that Ms. Whitehouse’s analysis of our BC/DR offerings led her to conclude that Geminare’s unique ability to failback as easily as we failover is the bigger truth.  We know that our easy, economical failback capability is what sets us apart in the market for MSPs looking to differentiate their cloud offerings, and it’s affirming to see leading companies, such as ESG, reach the same conclusion.”

Ms. Whitehouse states that ESG research has found that “improving disaster recovery capabilities is the top spending priority within data protection spending and that BC/DR is a function that companies are willing to invest in over the next 12 to 18 months.”  Geist adds, “we’re seeing this trend play out in the market in major ways, specifically with our large base of medium and enterprise MSPs as more and more companies are adopting our service, thanks to the stellar efforts of our many channel partners worldwide, including major telecom partners, leading hosting providers and top ranked MSPs.”

Ms. Whitehouse concludes, “IT investment justification typically focuses on mitigating risk, saving time, and saving money. A Geminare BC/DR solution can deliver value related to all three, especially over DIY [do-it-yourself] BC/DR implementations—a compelling reason for IT organizations and prospective service provider partners to take a closer look at Geminare’s solutions.”

About Geminare’s RaaS Product Portfolio

Geminare Wins THINKstrategies Cloud Computing Business Value Award

ccbv-award-sml
Recovery-as-a-Service Provider Safeguards Customer Data While Lowering the Cost of Server Replication and Archiving

Read the THINKstrategies press release.
—————————————–
Wellesley, Mass. – October 12, 2010 – THINKstrategies, Inc., the leading strategic consulting company focused on the business implications of the on-demand services market, announced today that Geminare has been named the newest winner of THINKstrategies’ Cloud Computing Business Value (CCBV) Awards program, which is aimed at promoting the measurable business benefits being delivered by today’s cloud computing solutions.

The CCBV Awards program was announced in January 2010 to recognize Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers delivering tangible business benefits to specific user organizations. These benefits include lower costs, faster deployment times, greater profitability, etc.

Geminare is a provider of Recovery as a Service (RaaS) solutions to the Cloud Computing market, with products including Cloud Recovery and Cloud Storage Assurance. Geminare delivers its solutions through a network of channel partners worldwide including Qwest Communications, Hosting.com, Bell Canada, CA Technologies Inc., and Ingram Micro.

An example of Geminare’s measurable business benefits is Tao Admin Corporation, the largest independent structured products administration firm in Canada, with over $4 billion in assets under its administration. Geminare protected Tao Admin’s critical infrastructure when the power went out in downtown Toronto, preserving between $1-2 million in new and existing revenues.

Another example of Geminare’s measurable benefits is Lang Michener, a Toronto-based law firm of over 400 employees which had an unplanned outage of its Exchange server during a routine maintenance window. The server traffic immediately failed over to Geminare’s Cloud Recovery solution, hosted by Bell Canada, saving the firm an estimated $500,000 in lost revenue during the weeklong outage.

It is for these reasons that Geminare has been named THINKstrategies’ latest Cloud Computing Business Value (CCBV) Award winner.

“Geminare is pleased to be recognized by THINKstrategies for the measurable business benefits provided by our Cloud Computing solutions,” said Joshua Geist, CEO of Geminare. “THINKstrategies’ confirmation of our traction and quantifiable value in the marketplace, given its reputation for quality, helps to secure our position as the de facto standard for RaaS and to accelerate adoption of our partners’ cloud recovery solutions.”

“Cloud computing gives organizations of all sizes access to powerful and cost-effective ‘on-demand’ resources which can strengthen their operations,”stated Jeffrey M. Kaplan, Managing Director of THINKstrategies.“Geminare’s RaaS capabilities clearly demonstrate the measurable benefits which are being delivered via the Cloud.”
